National Honor Society (NHS) selection is based on four content areas: academics, service, leadership, and character.
To be considered, a candidate must have a cumulative B average. Students who are academically eligible after the first semester of their junior year receive an invitation to apply for membership. Those who wish to be considered must complete and return the accompanying form by the due date, making sure to include all school and community extracurricular activities.
A faculty council of five principal-appointed teachers who have direct knowledge of the applicants makes the final decision on membership with specific input of the entire faculty. Members are inducted each spring.
National Honor Society members are leaders within our school system and community. The group runs blood drives in the fall and spring, organizes a fundraiser and shops for parish Giving tree recipients, and hosts the Veterans Day Assembly among other activities.
Students interested in school leadership are encouraged to apply for our middle school and high school Leader in Me Lighthouse Teams. These groups work to encourage others to use the Leader in Me principles and 7 Habits. The groups also plan events and activities throughout the year.
The Iowa High School Battle of the Books is a contest for 9th-12th graders across the state. Student teams work together to read a list of 28 books and answer questions at the competitions. Our team is the Bosco Bibliophiles and Mrs. Rottink is the advisor.
The Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph Yearbook Staff Advisor is Mrs. Schroeder. Eighth grade students may work on this preschool through grade eight book. This club meets once a week after school during part of the school year.
